About the Edition

The Parareptilia, the purported sister group to the Eureptilia, is not very well known, with many taxa in need of adequate description in the literature. One such taxon, Macroleter poezicus hails from the Upper Permian strata of the Mezen River Basin in the Arkhangel"sk Province of Russia. The cranial anatomy of Macroleter is described from 4 new well-preserved specimens, and this information was incorporated into a phylogeny of early amniotes, using 143 cranial and postcranial characters. A single tree was found, consisting of 428 steps, with the novel result that Macroleter is the taxon most closely related to pareiasaurs. This result has important implications for the phylogeny of the Parareptlia as well as to the identity of a disputed element in the cranium of parieasaurs.

Acleistorhinus (ah-kles-toe-RYE-nuss) is an extinct genus of parareptile known from the Early Permian (middle Kungurian stage) of Oklahoma It is notable for being the earliest known anapsid reptile yet discovered.

The morphology of the lower temporal fenestra of the skull of Acleistorhinus bears a superficial resemblance to that seen in early synapsids, a result of. PDF | On Jan 1,Daniel Goujet and others published Placoderm anatomy and phylogeny: new insights Daniel Goujet & Gavin C.

In this book, Sues adopts an explicitly phylogenetic framework to sift through the evidence and discuss the origin and diversification of Reptilia in a way no one has before.

He also examines the genealogical link between dinosaurs and birds and sheds new light on the Age of Reptiles, a period that saw the rise and fall of most dinosaurs. Bakker, R.
